HT - High Voltage/Tension & LT - Low Voltage/Tension
In a very simple & actual terms, If u use LT Generator,u will be handling heavy current where as if u use HT Generator,u will be handling lower current. Handling lower current to do same job is safer and materials are cheaper among other reasons. Handling lower current means low losses, less requirement for cooling, less requirement of space, less maintenance & cheap spares as compare to LT generator.
Current produced from HT Generator is initially supplied to transformer(step down transformer), from where current is stepped down to lower current & then supplied for required usage where as such activity is not required for LT Generator.
